Gold Medal Stanford Success
Gold Medal won over 30 Medals including eight Gold Medals in Stanford this weekend. Gold Medal Martial arts of Foster City sent the Rings of Excellence athletes to the 2011 Annual Stanford Open Taekwondo Championships. The young athletes ranged in age from 5 years old to 40 years old. The Gold Medal athletes are part of the Olympic Developmental Team under the direction of 1992 Olympic Gold Medalist Herb Perez. “Our head coach Mr. Jason McCuin has produced tremendous results this year,” explained Master Perez, “we have an aggressive competition schedule that will culminate with the 2011 USA Junior Olympics in San Jose later this year.
The athletes fought and performed traditional forms 5 to 6 against a variety of opponents and skill levels. The pool of athletes included several past national champions. “I was so proud of our son; he really demonstrated great skills and courage.” offered one Gold Medal mom. “it was inspiring to see him really challenge himself and he has developed great self confidence.”
The children have returned to their daily training at the center with an eye to the next competition that will be help in April. “We are right on target and should have some great performances at the Junior Olympics” added Mr. McCuin. Gold Medal is recruiting athletes for the upcoming competition season. Interested parents may stop by or call the center for additional information.
